9/17/2015 0 Comments All about bones....It has been a great start to the school year! We took the first few day to get reacquainted and work on our classroom rules and expectations or SOP's (SOP's = standard operating procedures). We have started our first learning target dealing with how the bones and muscles of the human body work together to allow us to move. Students have been working in groups to create "Mr. Bones" to help us learn all about the 206 bones of the human body.

1/12/2015 0 Comments Human Blood...Students have been exploring Human Blood in class the past few days. We have learned about the parts of blood to include red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. They have also been learning about blood types. Did your child ask you what blood type they have? We finished by completing a Forensic Mystery Lab based on blood typing and used microscopes to view prepared slides of blood. Students have a short assessment tomorrow... Here's a copy of the study guide: 11/7/2014 0 Comments Quest: Egg drop competitionIn our Physics Quest, students have been working on designing and building a device for our egg drop competition. This will be one of the culminating activities for the STEM Celebration on November 19th. Students were asked to build a device to protect an egg from a drop of at least 4 meters. Those that survive the first round will be tested at higher and higher drop points. Their creativity is amazing! You can come watch the competition live on November 19th starting at 11:00 in the gymnasium!
10/24/2014 0 Comments October 24th, 2014Here's another photo from yesterday's Lung Volume Lab. Mr. Milledge got in on the fun and had a friendly competition with some students to see who had a larger lung volume. It was too close to call! Many students had a flu shot yesterday, so we started class today with a discussion about what a "vaccine" actually is. Our discussion than switched to learning about different Respiratory Disorders and Diseases. We are almost done this quick unit on the Respiratory System and students will be completing the assessment early next week. Be sure to ask to see your child's study guide! 10/23/2014 0 Comments How much air can your lungs hold?10/22/2014 0 Comments Quest...Today in quest students completed some mini-lessons with myself and Mrs. Cormier focused on the differences between speed and velocity and scalars and vectors. Groups with Ms. Belanger and Mr. Radmore learned a bit more about research skills and note-taking while working on their projects. Students have come up with some very unique ways to show their understanding of Newton's Laws. Can't wait to see their final projects!!
10/17/2014 0 Comments Home stretch...Today students started the final human body system we will explore this trimester, the Respiratory System! To introduce the topic, we watched the Brainop video on the topic and then read a little bit of information about burps and hiccups, two topics related to the respiratory system. Students were then asked to draw and label a diagram of the respiratory system for next class.
